Acrylic Gifts – MDF Dinosaur

Do you want to build a custom T-Rex yourself and give it to your child for Christmas? Or maybe just for a fun decoration for your house or office! With ¼” sheets of painted MDF, you can make this awesome puzzle and put it together yourself, or as an activity with your little ones.

To make this sample, we used the MORN laser machine MT-L960 with 80W laser power. However, if you’re working with a smaller cutting table, you can easily reposition the pieces in Corel to work with your laser system.

MATERIALS NEEDED

    3 - 24" x 24" sheets of 1/4" thick MDF

    Spray Paint

    A Morn Laser System

Settings

Speed:20m/min Power: 60%

STEPS TO FOLLOW

  • 1

    1. Open the three files provided, you will see the pieces of the dinosaur separated out onto three 24" x 24" pages.

    2. These were set up to work with the 24" x 24" sheets of MDF. If you are working with small pieces of wood, adjust the page size and move the pieces around so that they all fit on the wood.

    3. If you work with a different thickness of wood or resize the pieces to smaller dimensions, you will need to resize the slots so they will fit correctly together.

    4. Time to put together the puzzle

    5. Start by attaching the tail piece to the hip, then the hip to the back.

    6. Attach the three pieces that make up the head. Use the diagram to the right to help identify each piece

    7. Put together the legs and arrange each of the eight pieces from smallest to largest. The smallest piece goes into the slot at the far end of the tail, while the largest piece goes in the slot closest to the legs.

    8. When you have the tail finished, you can add the back vertebrae. There are six pieces to arrange from smallest to largest with the largest piece inserted in the slot closest to the legs and the smallest nearest the head.

    9. The third vertebrae from the head should be the piece pictured in the blue box to the right. You'll notice that this piece has two additional slots to place the arms.

Your T-Rex is complete! Have fun with this puzzle and try different ways to decorate the dinosaur with different colors. Enjoy!
